This year the perfect holiday gift might just be found at the Western Arizona Humane Society. The unconditional love of a pet is priceless, and pets that are rescued tend to be extremely loyal. Although Christmas may not be the best time to bring a new animal into the household, there is an option to consider.

You may think you know a person well enough to make a pet selection for them, but that might not be the case.  Some folks have very definite preferences regarding a pet---or whether they even want a pet.  While many are cat fanciers, some prefer dogs of a specific breed or size.  Certain people absolutely want a young kitten or puppy, and others like an older, more settled animal.  And it is very hard to judge what type of pet personality will be best for another person.  It is important to select one’s own pet to help in the bonding process.

Since W.A.H.S has gift certificates available, you can pre-pay for the adoption and let the recipient of the gift make the choice.   A nice way to dress up a package is to purchase pet supplies, such as food, a leash, bed, etc., and wrap it in paw print paper or pet paper.

Use imagination here, making it a really fun and personal gift.  They can then choose a pet whenever the time is right.

Another type of gift certificate could be that of a spay or neuter procedure for a pet that needs altering.  This is a gift that will be helpful for years to come, because it avoids many unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, and saves the owner lots of health and behavioral problems.

If the recipient of your holiday gift is unable to add a pet to the home, you can also make a donation to W.A.H.S. in honor or memory of a former pet or a beloved family member.  This type of gift goes a long way toward helping the many homeless animals residing in the shelter.
