If you talk to most owners of shelter dogs, they will tell you a mixed-breed “mutt” often makes a great pet. Yet shelters also have many full-blooded breeds---this can be anywhere from 25 to 40 percent of a shelter’s dog population. Not everyone is aware of all the advantages to adopting a dog Ø Your spay/neuter cost is included in the price of adoption. Ø Our local vets will allow you a free exam, as a “wellness checkup”, with your adoption. Ø You have the assurance that our dogs have been “SAFER-Tested” by our trained volunteers---only dogs suitable for adoption are available. Ø You will receive a coupon for a free grooming. Ø A packet of food samples, coupons, and information comes with your adoption. Ø You can have an engraved metal pet ID tag made for just $5 at the time of adoption. Ø Pet training advice from Rosie’s Pet Connection is available. Ø Our shelter has a carousel of informational pamphlets and flyers with tons of ideas and helpful hints.
In other words, the Western Arizona Humane Society can serve as a support system to help you have a successful adoption, and will assist you in making the transition to pet ownership. You won’t find that kind of support from a breeder or pet shop! A non-profit organization, the shelter is committed to providing the animals with humane care---and that means we also care that they are matched to the best home situations possible. Our local shelter really does attempt to work with you and help you in any way possible. There is a “wish list” adoption form available---all you have to do is fill out the form, and you will receive a call when we have that particular breed is available. Of course, availability will be “first come, first served”. Come visit the Western Arizona Humane Society and see what we offer. Shelter hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with kennels open from 10 to 4. You can also call 855-5083 during business hours for more information.
